Mastercraft Flashlight Review

Can you see the light?

One of the most important inspection devices is the Inspector’s sight. Unfortunately, as none of us has yet become a cyborg:  with the bionic eyeball option, we still rely on tools to assist in our practice. Using the guidelines that Property Inspectors rely on their tools to be efficient – In performance, cost and ease of use – This month’s edition will review a couple of units worthy of further investigation.

Both units are from “Mastercraft” and part of the same family. Except for physical size and power output, both units have the same functions.

Performance:

The Inspector’s light source should be well built, easy to use and sturdy to handle the rigours of a building inspection practice.

Ease of Use:

Tools such as flashlights should be simple to use and operate. Options and “bell and whistles” should be kept to a minimum so as to not distract from the primary use: A flashlight that plays the national anthem in different keys of barking dogs and grumpy cats may indeed make you look different but it will do nothing for your practice.

Cost:

A key component of tool selection is cost: This applies to the initial outlay for the unit as well as additional costs for consumables if any.

Conclusions:

A Professional needs and should use professional, well-built tools. Unfortunately, much too often, tools are selected by brand name without much thought to costs.

Both these units offer the same functions and sturdy construction as many “upper-priced” models for a fraction of the cost.

Further weight saving can be assured using rechargeable batteries, which also gains further cost savings.
